Essential Mascara - Zero Waste Mascara, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Organic

I searched a long time and tried many different mascara before finding the Essential Mascara from Equate at Zero Waste Store. It does not clump, has a wonderful brush that gets into the corner of my eyes without blobs getting on my skin, and lengthens my lashes, providing a full-lash look - every single time! I did not want a water-proof mascara and found that even though this isn't water-proof, it stays on and doesn't smudge easily. I will continue to buy this product as long as it is available - and I hope that is for a very long time. Thank you for making the "perfect" mascara!

Believe every single other 5-star star on this mascara. It truly is wonderful! I was expecting it to maybe be a little bit clumpy but I had no issue whatsoever. The tube is a decent size for the price and a great color, very natural looking and dark. Will definitely be buying again.

Unfortunately it doesn't lift or really build that much but it works! It doesn't burn or have any other cons.

I love this mascara! From the clean formula to the glass tube. I have very sensitive eyes and this mascara checks all the boxes. It doesn’t irritate my eyes, adds volume and length without looking unnatural. Perfect for giving your eyes that little pop with your favorite eye shadow palette.

I've been using this mascara for a few years now and I love it. It doesn't run and does not get goopy.

I tossed all my old makeup and started using all natural products from Zero Waste. Love them all! This mascara doesn’t clump or run. Looks very natural!

Nothing about this other than the half wooden packaging wouldn’t reveal that it’s not regular mascara. It works well so it’s a shame it’s always out of stock.

UPDATE: it has started flaking after application after a few months of extremely occasional use.

The only reason why I didn’t give it a 5/5 stars is because it’s a *little more* expensive than I was willing to pay, but the mascara itself is great and I love the packaging it comes in.

I’ve tried nearly every zero waste mascara out there, & most are messy & smudge constantly yet provide little added color/volume to your lashes. This mascara is a great option to retain all the nice qualities of traditional mascara in a low-plastic format (I do wish they’d swap out the brush for nonplastic).

The mascara is amazing….no clunks and goes on smoothly…Only need one stroke and it makes my eyelashes look so pretty.

Color is perfect and is super easy to take off

This mascara works very well. I haven't had the chance to break the tube for recycling, but using it I feel like it separates and lengthens well. It doesn't add much volume compared to normal drugstore mascaras though.

Only takes one coat to make my lashes look great. No clumps, and no flakes even after working a 9+ hour shift as a line cook. I’m not a big makeup gal but I’ve been wearing this stuff almost every day!

This mascara is so beautiful and it feels really clean. I don’t feel like I have heavy chemicals on my face and my lashes feel really healthy. Would for sure recommend.

I had to order brown because they were out of black. The brown looks nice, very natural. NO flakes, no shadow formed under my eyes by the end of the day, which is what happens with most mascaras, even dept store brands. My only minor quibble is that there is a sticker over the center of the bottle that leaves a gross sticky mess when removed. I had to use goo-gone to clean it off.

After trying many items from different categories across Zero Waste's platform, I'm confident in my review that I'm genuinely obsessed with this place. Zero Waste's products are of high quality, appear to uphold their message of Zero Waste (as much as possible), and have kept me shopping here solely for makeup-related items. This mascara container is cute, it holds well, and the color is exactly what I was wanting. So far it hasn't clumped, or run and comes off super easy which is what I've been needing.
It's hard in today's world to make changes that feel effective, but Zero Waste is slowly helping me believe that I'm making a difference with them.

This mascara is unscented, light-weight, and doesn’t smear. Sometimes it flakes, but very minimally, and I’d prefer flakes to smears or clumps. It also removes cleanly (I use coconut oil) and doesn’t leave your lashes feeling dry or brittle. The bamboo container is also pretty cute! I like to apply 3-4 coats to curled lashes for a natural look.

But I don't - it clumped.

Elate Essential Mascara

I’m in love with this mascara. I’ve been using Thrive’s liquid extensions for a while now. I loved what it did to my lashes, but it often flaked for me by the end of the day, and it wasn’t helping me in my zero waste journey.

This Elate Mascara is a winner for me. I would say it lengthens rather than thickens. I prefer a more natural looks, so that was actually a pro in my book. It does not flake or smudge at all, but is also easy to wash off at the end of the night. Best mascara I’ve ever had AND it’s recyclable/compostable.

The price tag is slightly higher than other high end mascaras, but I’m willing to pay the extra to decrease my waste.

In short - LOVE this product.

This is the most beautiful mascara! I love how long it lasts and how easy it is to apply, also it’s very easy to wash off but doesn’t smudge or leave flakes behind. Do to my eyelashes being long and blonde I tend to like using a difference eyelash brush but my girlfriend uses the one that it comes with and loves it. I hope they never change this formula, it’s perfect!
