Sustainable Cleaning Supplies For A Spring Cleaning
No sustainable cleaning product is complete without the tools needed to get the job done. Below are some of our favorite sustainable and zero waste cleaning tools that are tough on dirt and messes but easy on mother earth.
Unpaper Towels
You can use any rag you have around the house for cleaning — preferably made from cotton because it’s gentle, non-scratching, and can be composted at the end of its life — but if you’re ready to ditch the paper towels for good, this set of reusable and washable towels in a 12 or 24 pack is a great place to start.
Cleaning Suggestions: Countertops, sinks, stove, oven, makeshift duster
Dish Brush Kit
Each of these dish brushes has a unique perfect use, and not just in the kitchen, in any room! Bundle up these brushes to save $$ and use them everywhere. And by everywhere we mean in every room — please sanitize in between uses or use separate brushes for different surfaces.
Cleaning Suggestions: The vegetable brush for laundry stains; the pot scrubber for showers, sinks, tubs, and countertops; the bottle brush or the long handled brush for toilets!
Coconut Scour
If you’re more of a sponge person, ditch plastic smelly sponges for good and get ready to be impressed by the scrubbing power of coconut coir, another great sustainable cleaning tool disguised as a kitchen item. You can toss them in the dishwasher to disinfect and at the end of their life, compost them.
Cleaning Suggestions: Bathrooms, showers, and ovens!
Washable Mop Covers
A waterless mop has saved us thousands of hours of cleaning time, but throwing them away after one use has created an unfortunate amount of waste. Use these 100% cotton cloth mop covers and turn your mop into the ultimate sustainable cleaning product. After mopping with your favorite cleaner, toss them into the washer to clean and then reuse
Cleaning Suggestions: Every floor, maybe some walls, even the shower walls if that’s your style
Reusable Glass Spray Bottle
No sustainable cleaning routine is complete without a reusable glass bottle. If you already have one around the house, remove the label and repurpose it into a cleaning tool. Be sure to relabel. If you need to add some to your collection, this glass spray bottle comes with a recipe sticker for your favorite DIY cleaner.
Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

DIY All Purpose Cleaner
Try this DIY Cleaner using ingredients around the house. Vinegar is a great natural cleaner that works well for glass, tile, and ceramic tile. Note, you should not use Vinegar on porous surfaces such as unsealed tile, stone, waxed wood, or cast iron.
Check out our video on Instagram or follow the recipe below:
- 1 empty jar
- Aromatic Herbs (your favorite, we use Rosemary)
- A Few Citrus Peels (your favorite, we use Orange peels)
- Distilled White Vinegar
- Instructions: Fill an empty jar with your favorite herbs and citrus. Fill the bottle with vinegar and let sit for 1-2 weeks in a dark place. When it’s done, remove herbs and citrus and add to the compost bin. Dilute the vinegar mixture to a 1:1 water ratio. Fill your bottle 50% with water and fill with the diluted vinegar. Clean away!
All Purpose Cleaner
Not ready for A DIY cleaner? Don’t you worry — this versatile cleaning powder from Circular Bodies is all you need to keep around the house. Saponified antibacterial coconut oil and Sodium hydrogen carbonate (baking soda) come together to tackle any of your cleaning needs in the kitchen, laundry room, or any room!
To use: Mix 1 teaspoon with 1 cup warm water. Mix and start spraying!
Dish Soap Bars
Dish soap bars are not only great for getting your dishes clean without plastic bottles, but their cleaning powers can be used on countertops, stoves, sinks, and ovens! Grab your brush/sponge/cloth of choice, scrub into the soap bar, wash and wipe as normal.
Kind Laundry Sheets
Forget heavy plastic jugs and liquid goopy messes. You just need to toss one of these Kind Laundry sheets into your washing machine and go! Add 2-3 sheets for extra large or heavily soiled loads.
Remember, the best zero waste and sustainable cleaning products are what you already have. If you use a plastic broom from a dollar store you’ve been using for 5 years and it’s holding on strong, keep using it!
The goal is always to minimize our waste on the planet. Using products over and over until they can’t be used anymore is the way to do it. When that plastic broom is on its last leg and can go no further, then consider a product made from natural materials that can be broken down at the end of its life. Until then, happy spring cleaning!
