Minty fresh but a tight fit

I really like the minty freshness of this floss and it does clean. However, without a wax coating--it's a tight, often rather painful experience. I really have to press hard to get the floss between teeth which has resulted in bleeding around my teeth. It's also painful on my fingers. Overall I have really good dental health/hygiene per my last dentist visit (November 2019)--so the bleeding isn't due to health/hygiene issues. Hoping this is simply and adjustment period.
